With:

  • Louis-Etienne Lessard, Lactanet: The methane estimation project, initiated by Les Producteurs de lait du Québec in collaboration with Lactanet, aims to develop an innovative method to estimate enteric methane emissions from dairy herds using bulk tank milk analysis. The approach relies on infrared analysis of milk composition to build a predictive model. The project includes experimental measurements on Quebec dairy farms to calibrate and validate the model. Its objective is to enable methane emissions monitoring across all herds in Quebec and support strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of milk production.
  • Edith Charbonneau, Laval University: The Living Lab Québec-Lait Carboneutre is based on collaborative research and aims to support dairy producers in their transition toward milk carbon neutrality. In the first step of the project, milk carbon footprint assessments were conducted on all farms, and actions were implemented and documented based on these assessments. Each farm selected specific practices aimed at reducing whole-farm emissions, including practices targeting enteric methane.
